Jesus answered him, "I have spoken openly to the world. I have always taught in synagogues and in the temple, where all Jews come together. I have said nothing in secret.
John 18:20

Have you ever seen books or magazines with titles like “The Secret Teachings of Jesus?” They pop up every once in a while, all claiming to have access to things that Jesus taught His inner circle of disciples, that either didn’t get put into the Bible or have been suppressed and purged by a conspiracy of the Christian Church.

The simple statement in the verse above, as the Lord answered his accusers, debunks them all. There never were any secret teachings of Jesus. Everything He taught was public knowledge, spoken in front of crowds of people. Some of them understood what He said, others didn’t. Eyewitnesses who did understand Him wrote down what he said and produced the four Gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, each from a different viewpoint, but all in agreement as to what He said and did.

Stuart Hamblen wrote a song that we love:

It is no secret what God can do
What He’s done for others, He’ll do for you.
With arms wide open, He’ll pardon you.
It is no secret, what God can do.

Stuart Hamblen knew all about what God can do. He was an alcoholic who came to Jesus, and found a new life.

Lord Jesus, thank You for speaking the truth openly and not keeping any secrets.
Thank You for making sure it all got written down for me to read and hear.
Thank You for meeting me in Your Word this morning and giving me the grace to understand it.
Thank You for the plan and purpose You have for my life.
Thank You for taking my guilt on yourself, for forgiving me, and making me Yours. Amen!
