Knowing the Savior and Making Him Known

Sunday 12/28/2025 Devotional

Be patient, therefore, Brothers, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient about it, until it receives the early and the late rains. You also, be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand.

Come now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit"— yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, "If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that."

…let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

By faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter, choosing rather to be mistreated with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. He considered the reproach of Christ greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking to the reward.

In the days of His flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to Him who was able to save Him from death, and He was heard because of His reverence. For Jesus has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses—as much more glory as the builder of a house has more honor than the house itself.

Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, He himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death He might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery.
Hebrews 2:14-15

The Lord Jesus took on flesh and blood in order to destroy the devil’s hold on us. By suffering death Himself and then rising from the dead, He broke the power of death. By offering Himself as the atoning sacrifice He is able to offer forgiveness and freedom from the condemnation that we rightly deserve.

The devil’s grip is broken. Once you receive God’s forgiveness all the devil’s claims and  accusations become meaningless.

When the enemy says, “Ha, ha! I’ve got you, you’re mine!” You can say, “Nope, you don’t, and I’m not, because Jesus died for me.”

That doesn’t mean he won’t try; the devil always was a liar. But the truth is as solid as the word that upholds the universe: in Jesus, you’re forgiven and free.

Lord Jesus, thank You for taking on my human nature so that I can be free. Help me now to walk in my new freedom: free from guilt and condemnation, free from the enslaving power of sin, and free from the fear of death. Amen!
