Knowing the Savior and Making Him Known

Saturday 12/27/2025 Devotional

Come now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit"— yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, "If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that."
James 4:13-15

It’s natural for us to plan for the future, and wisdom demands a certain preparedness for the days ahead. For those of us who are head of a household, the responsibility to have made provision for our family, should something happen to us, weighs upon us, and that’s a good thing.

But we live in the awareness that our life is but a breath, or as it says here, “a mist that appears for a time and then vanishes.” We don’t know how long our life on earth will last or when it will suddenly be brought to an end, so wisdom demands that in all of our preparations for the future, distant or immediate, we keep eternity’s values in view.

Thanks to Jesus, the assurance of God’s forgiveness and a home in heaven is mine. How then should I live my time here on earth?

Lord, give me wisdom to live today with my eyes firmly fixed on You and on Your purpose in having me here, yet one more day. Amen.
