Therefore let us leave the elementary doctrine of Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, and of instruction about washings, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment.
Hebrews 6:1-2
This verse comes right after the one that says that solid food is for the mature while the spiritually immature can only handle milk. He’s not saying we should abandon these basics, but that it’s time to build upon them as we grow into maturity in our relationship with God.
But it seems that for most people, these basics are as far as we can get. We have to keep going back to talk about the need for repentance and of faith in Christ and His forgiveness. We keep discussing whether we were baptized in just the right way, and how to go about prayer. These things seem to be elusive and hard for many to hold on to.
These basics should be settled in our minds so that we take them as the very foundation of our lives and move on to live, earnestly seeking God’s plan for our lives and serving Him, in full assurance that His forgiveness for Christ’s sake, our redemption, our abandonment of the old sins that used to characterize our lives, are settled once and for all.
God has a wonderful plan for your life. Leave the dead works of sinful behavior behind in the dust bin of history and move on to lay hold of the adventure that He has for you!
Lord, thank You for coming to be my Savior. Thank You for redeeming me, forgiving me, and setting me on this new path. Help me now to leave the dirty stuff behind and embrace this new, clean, glorious life of discovering Your plan and living it, in Jesus’ name! Amen.
