In the days of His flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to Him who was able to save Him from death, and He was heard because of His reverence. Although He was a son, He learned obedience through what He suffered. And being made perfect, He became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey Him…
Hebrews 5:7-9
We don’t often think of the Lord Jesus in this way: His active life of prayer, as He lived completely dependent upon His Father. As a man among men He showed us how to live by faith, and that involves some serious times of prayer.
There are times when the world, the flesh and the devil’s loud insistence that prayer is useless, that the Bible is mythology, and that faith is a figment of your imagination has to be drowned out with fervent prayer. These loud cries and tears aren’t the result of doubt, but the evidence of faith being put to the test.
Have you ever found yourself praying with fervent, loud cries and tears, as you pleaded with God for what you needed, standing upon His promises? If you haven’t, I can promise you that you will, eventually. Because the obedience of faith isn’t just a theory; it’s very real and can only be learned by experience, by being put to the test, by suffering.
Lord Jesus, thank You for taking on my humanity, to show me how to live as a man. Thank You for suffering through the same assaults of temptation that I face, and for standing strong through it, to become my source of eternal salvation. Amen.
