Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind.
1 Peter 3:8

How’s that for a goal to start off the new year?

Unity of mind means that instead of looking for things to argue about, I will look for the things about which we can agree.

Sympathy literally means to suffer along with one who suffers, to feel their pain as though it were my own and act accordingly.

Brotherly love is the mutual respect, affection, and kindness that is often (and should always be) found among brothers.

A tender heart is touched by the love of others, the opposite of a hard, unfeeling heart.

A humble mind is the attitude that treats the other guy as more important than myself.

Now, can you picture a group of the strongest men you know, exhibiting these character traits and encouraging each other together in them? They could literally turn the world upside down. That’s what a fellowship should look like, as the Spirit of God develops the character traits of Jesus in us.

Lord, raise up a peer group of men who want to live this way. I want to be part of it! Amen.
