Knowing the Savior and Making Him Known

Friday 11/21/2025 Devotional

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.
1 Timothy 2:1-2

How should I pray for those in authority? What can I pray for, for the President or the Prime Minister, the Governor or legislator, judge and other officials? What should I ask God for when I pray for my boss at work or for the rulers of other countries, not my own?

With supplications I ask God to supply what that person needs - personally, spiritually, and the material equipment he needs to do the job he has been assigned.

With prayers I beseech God, a higher power than this human authority, to keep him in line with God’s plan and purpose.

I intercede on his behalf, recognizing that this person might not deserve what I’m asking for, and asking God to graciously give it anyway.

Giving thanks for a person in authority expresses faith that God rules over him, has put him in his position for this moment in history (and in my life), and will in some way use him to fulfill His purpose.

Lord, I pray for ___, whom you have placed in authority for this moment. Use (him) to bring about Your good and loving purpose, so that we can live in peace and security, so that Your Word can be freely proclaimed and Your own people can live dignified, godly lives under (his) watch. Amen.
