Send out Your light and Your truth; let them lead me; let them bring me to Your holy hill and to Your dwelling!
Then I will go to the altar of God, to God my exceeding joy, and I will praise You with the lyre, O God, my God.
Psalm 43:3-4
God’s light and His truth have already been sent out; they were written down for us in the Bible. There’s nothing more to be added to it. But David is asking here that the light and truth of God’s self-revelation, given in His Word, would be sent into his heart.
I might have a Bible, beautifully published, bound in leather with my name stamped on the cover in gold, but until it gets into my heart its effect is not seen in my life.
I might even read it and study it, fill my mind with it, but when God, by His Holy Spirit, causes it to make the leap from my mind to my heart, something powerful and mysterious happens, and my life changes.
Where before I went around oppressed, burdened by guilt, paralyzed by darkness and moral weakness, I suddenly find myself filled with an unexplainable joy. Suddenly, I have the desire to be in God’s presence. I want to be in church, instead of seeing it as a burden, or a religious duty.
I find myself singing the praises of God instead of the old praises to the world, the flesh and the devil that used to hum in my heart. Darkness is replaced by light and the lies and confusion are replaced by truth in my heart.
Lord Jesus, who died for me on that “holy hill,” let that wonderful and mysterious leap take place inside of me. Send Your light and Your truth into my heart. Clear away the darkness and confusion, and bring about the changes You want to see in me. Amen.
