But take care that this right of yours does not somehow become a stumbling block to the weak.
1 Corinthians 8:9

Here the Bible is talking about the practical outworking of my decision to live as a Christian. Every day will bring decisions to be made about what I can do and what I should leave behind.

There are many things I have every right to enjoy, but I choose to give up for the sake of not putting a stumbling block in front of others. Paul refers to a few of them in this chapter, but there are many others that will come up in my life, and each one will have to be considered on its own.

But the principle is the same: Don’t put temptation in front of the weak. Build up and strengthen your brothers, don’t destroy them by providing a bad example and causing them to sin.

How many times have I failed in this? I can think of many and I’m sure there are more of which I’m not even aware. Praise God for His infinite mercy! My failures are under the blood of Jesus that covers even this.

Lord Jesus, help me to be the kind of man others can safely follow, as I follow You. Amen.
