Knowing the Savior and Making Him Known

Wednesday 7/30/2025 Devotional

I remember a child’s poem that said, “Whatever Miss T eats turns into Miss T.” It works spiritually as well as physically. We become what we fill our hearts with, and what fills my heart will be expressed; it will eventually find its way out of my mouth, because the Lord Jesus said, “Out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.”

Be careful what fills your heart. Be careful what you put in there. Be careful what you allow to grow there.

When I fill my heart with bitterness, fear, lustful images and thoughts, anger and jealousy, it poisons me. It becomes who I am, and eventually I will find myself blurting it out.

But if I fill my heart with the good treasure of God’s Word, meditate on His forgiveness and cultivate an attitude of gratitude instead of selfish, sinful thoughts, that’s what will come out of my mouth.

So the Apostle wrote, too: Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.
Philippians 4:8-9

Lord Jesus, help me to fill my heart with Your Word, and to meditate on it so that faith and all the fruit of Your Spirit gros in me. Let these good things so fill my heart that they come out of my mouth whenever I speak. Amen.
