Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you.
Isaiah 49:13-15
When things get hard or don’t go the way we thought they should have gone, we’re tempted to think that God has forgotten about us, or that He isn't listening to our prayers.
But here you have His promise that He can’t forget about you, and like a mother with a nursing infant, He is constantly listening. His ears are tuned to your cry.
Think about it. When a baby cries, his mother not only awakens from the deepest sleep, her whole body physically reacts to that cry. She can’t not hear! God’s compassion for you is even greater than that mom.
When our kids were tiny we sometimes had to let them cry for a few minutes before going to them; it was necessary for the baby’s health. But every cry in the night went right through my wife’s heart. I could see it in her face, even when she was exhausted.
The baby might wonder for a fleeting moment, “Where’s my Mom? Why isn’t she here to take care of me?!” But she’s never far away, and she’s listening. Her arms ache to pick up her baby and comfort him, even when she knows it’s better for him to let him cry for a moment.
God’s care for you is even deeper than that. If you feel like you’re not getting through, remember that crying baby. Go ahead and cry out to Him. He’s listening, watching over you, and doing what’s best for you.
Thank You, Father, for always being right here, for listening to my every complaint, and for never forgetting about me, not even for a moment. Amen.
