And I took the little scroll from the hand of the angel and ate it. It was sweet as honey in my mouth, but when I had eaten it my stomach was made bitter.
Revelation 10:10
God’s Word is often sweet in our mouth as it’s spoken but hard to digest. It’s one thing to read it or to preach it and another thing to apply it to my own soul.
We might find ourselves ready to give advice and good, godly, biblical counsel to others but struggle to follow that same counsel in our own lives, but it’s necessary and inescapable that we take it internally, digest and apply it and, like the food we eat, let it become part of who we are.
It’s not those who say what’s right who are in the Kingdom of Heaven but those whose hearts are truly converted by God’s Word at work in us.
Lord God, Your Word is true and right. It feeds my soul and gives me life. Let it take root in my heart and change the way I think, the way I feel, and the way I live, for Jesus’ sake. Amen!
