No unbelief made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God, fully convinced that God was able to do what He had promised.
Romans 4:20-21
God had given Abraham some wonderful promises. He would be the father of many nations; he and his descendants would be a blessing to the entire human race; the promised Savior would be one of his offspring.
But the facts were that he was now approaching 100 years of age and his wife, who had never been able to conceive a child, was ninety. Under those circumstances, believing that God would keep those promises was absurd, illogical, and unreasonable. The facts of medical science stood against the merest possibility of their fulfillment.
Abraham knew that God was able to do what He had promised, but would He? That’s where we tend to wobble. We might believe that God will keep His promises to somebody else, but not to us. My case is different. My situation is impossible.
How did Abraham manage to keep his faith from wavering, as he considered the facts that indicated that the fulfillment of God’s promises was clearly impossible? How did his faith actually grow stronger, instead of weaker, as time slipped away from him?
The key is in this verse: He grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God. Abraham gave glory to God. He worshipped Him; He thanked Him; He reminded Him of His promises and praised Him for His Word. And he grew strong in his faith as he did that.
Do you want your faith to grow strong? Then give glory to God, like Abraham. Thank, praise, and worship Him in your words and by the way you live, and your faith will grow stronger.
Lord, I thank you for showing me this secret today. I know that Your Word is true and that You are able to keep it, and I praise You, because I know that You will keep it in my life. Amen.
