I have said these things to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.
John 16:33
Here are two things we can sure we will always have: tribulation in the world, and peace in the Lord Jesus.
Tribulation means trouble: great affliction, trial, distress. It includes everything from outright oppression and persecution because of our faith to the constant opposition of the devil, the world, and our own sinful nature, against a life lived as God would have it lived.
There will always be tribulation for those who choose to believe and follow Him. There will always be opposition. But there will always be peace in knowing the One who is in ultimate control, as my loving Father in heaven. Nothing and no one can snatch me out of His hand. Nothing and no one can separate me from His love. His peace surpasses all human understanding, and keeps my heart and my mind in Him.
Lord Jesus, thanks for the warning, and thank You for the promise. Thank You for the peace that fills my heart even when the hard times come and the tribulation increases. Thank You for keeping me close, in You. Amen.
