Knowing the Savior and Making Him Known

Wednesday 2/4/2026 Devotional

Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.
Psalm 20:7

In modernspeak David might have written, “Some trust in tanks and some in airplanes…”

The rulers of this world put their trust in the tools of power. They flex their muscles and parade military hardware through the streets to create the illusion of invincibility and increase the people’s faith in, and fear of, them.

In contrast, we trust God to bring about what’s good, to advance His purpose and accomplish His will. We pray, “Thy Kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth…” And we put our trust in His promise that He will answer that prayer.

In contrast to the world’s faith in the tools of power we have the Lord’s instructions: ”You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them.
It shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be your slave, even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.”
Matthew 20:25-28

God’s approach to victory looks to the world like defeat. But because we serve the living God who hears and answers prayer and fulfills His own purpose in our lives, “They collapse and fall, but we rise and stand upright.” (Psalm 20:8)

Lord Jesus, give me the strength I need to surrender my cause to You today, to be a servant and of no account, so that You can accomplish Your purpose in my life and in the lives of those around me. I trust in Your name, not in the world’s way of getting it done. Amen.
