But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved) and raised us up with Him and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages He might show the immeasurable riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.
Ephesians 2:4-7
There’s so much to meditate on in these verses, but for today let’s just look at the last part.
It says here that God’s purpose in forgiving my sin and making me His own child is “so that in the coming ages He might show the immeasurable riches of His grace in kindness toward [me].”
“In the coming ages” means that throughout eternity God will continue to display the immeasurable beauty of His character as He shows more of His kindness toward me.
What form will that take? I don’t know; I can’t even guess, but having experienced His kindness here for so many years, I know that it will be wonderful beyond my imagination.
No eye has seen,
nor ear heard,
nor the heart of man imagined,
what God has prepared for those who love Him.
1 Corinthians 2:9
Father, I can’t even imagine what You have in store for me in eternity, but I’m so grateful that in the richness of Your mercy You chose me for it. I know it’s sheer grace on Your part, because I could never deserve it, but thank You, Lord! I can hardly wait.
