They said to him, "We have only five loaves here and two fish." And He said, "Bring them here to Me."
Matthew 14:17-18
You would shame the plans of the poor, but the Lord is his refuge.
Psalm 14:6
This theme recurs over and over again in the Bible. We come to God in our poverty, our inability to get it (whatever “it” is) done. He asks us to give Him whatever we have in our hands, and then He takes that and blessed it so that somehow, against all reason, the need is met, and not just barely met, but met in abundance.
This wouldn’t work if if were not for the fact that God is real, that He really answers our prayers, and He is a refuge for those who call upon Him, trusting in Him.
The world will ridicule and shame the way we plan, taking God into account, because it makes no sense to them. Okay, let them laugh! We know it’s true, it works, and praise God, He is our refuge!
Lord, thank You for being here when I come to You. Thank You for being the refuge, the safe place, to which I can run and find all that I need. Thank You, Lord! Amen.
