The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.
2 Corinthians 9:6-8
It shouldn’t be necessary to encourage Christians to be generous. We, of all people, should know that if God is our Father and has promised to provide all our needs, we can’t lose.
If I give away everything I have in a way that pleases Him, He won’t be disgusted that I wasted His gifts. I simply used them, like a faithful steward, as He would have done. In fact, I have carefully invested it, trusting in His promises.
The more I invest what God has given me in ways that please Him, the more increase I will see in what He entrusts to my care, because He has found me to be faithful.
And it not only applies to money. As you invest your time, your talents, your education and your life in the ways that please your Father in Heaven, you will see how He “makes all grace abound to you,” so that you not only have what you need, but are enabled to help others even more.
Father, this principle, so clearly taught in Your Word, leaves me astonished, even though I’ve seen it work my whole life. Help me to be a wise trustee of all that You put into my care, and to use Your gifts as You would have them used, trusting in You. Amen.
