Knowing the Savior and Making Him Known

Saturday 1/3/2026 Devotional

Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for "God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble."
1 Peter 5:5

Humility is treating the other person as more important than myself. To “clothe myself with” humility means to put on and wear the garment of this attitude, to dress myself in it.

Does that mean that I feel it on the inside? Maybe not, at first. It doesn’t matter!

On a cold day, I might put on a warm coat, but I don’t necessarily immediately feel warm. If I keep the coat on, eventually the warmth will come.

In the same way, dressing myself in humility may seem to be a purely outward exercise at first. I may not feel on the inside that the other guy is really more important than me. But if I wear that garment for a while, my cold heart will warm up and the understanding and the healing will come, because God gives grace to the one who does this. He changes your heart.

Feelings are only feelings. They come and go; they aren’t that important. The reality of how we treat each other is what counts.

Here’s a secret, guys: it will work in your marriage, too.

Lord, thank You for the way You worded this command. Help me to put on humility until it warms my heart and changes my habitual way of thinking and feeling. Heal me on the inside, Lord Jesus, by Your grace. Amen.
