Knowing the Savior and Making Him Known

Friday 8/8/2025 Devotional

Evil thrives in the dark. Hiding what I do, avoiding exposure of my behavior and keeping shameful secrets encourages evil to grow.

The devil loves the dark, and evil men do, too. Words like “Don’t tell your Mom” should set off alarms in a child’s heart, and the adult equivalent of such words should do the same for us. if I find myself even praying, “Oh, God, please don’t let anyone find out what I’ve done,” I should be very afraid. Am I trying to make Him an accomplice in my sinful behavior? That will never work.

The next verse assures us, “But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.” (John 3:21)

Be truthful. Do what’s true. Be what you say you are; never try to hide your sin. Evil thrives in the dark; good grows strong in the light.

Lord Jesus, keep the lights on in my life. Help me to avoid the shameful works of darkness and be true to the light, with nothing to hide. Strengthen in me the good work that you’ve begun. Amen.
